Glasgow newborn photographer. So you got a new camera for Christmas!!!
Its been a wee while since I shared a wee blog post so I thought I best get my finger out. When I sat down to think about what I was going to write about I (as I often do) thought right ive got half an hour to myself so before I do any work i'll have a wee snoop on facebook and see what's happening in the world.
As I was procrastinating away something occurred to me, I'd seen at least 3 people post lovely pictures they'd taken with their brand new camera's they'd been gifted for Christmas.
I'm absolutely delighted that many more people are as passionate about preserving memories as I am. But something stopped me in my tracks and got me thinking. Ive noticed a HUGE increase recently in the number of photographers "going professional" lately and I too was one of them almost 7 years ago. I got my first DSLR camera 7 years ago and thought I was the business! I took lots of pictures of my boys but that wasn't enough! I offered to take pictures of my friends and family's babies and kids and before I knew I was bitten by the bug. I wanted this to be my job!! It was another 3 years before this was the case however, but I used this time to learn how to use my camera and more importantly how to take pictures safely!!!
This brings me to the point of my post.
Over the years I've spent THOUSANDS of pounds attending various training courses to teach me everything I needed to know about safety - especially when it came to those brand new little babies that I so desperately wanted to specialise in. There were poses that I daren't even attempt until I knew I could do it safely. So with this in mind, it got me thinking. How many of those brand new photographers know how to handle your precious little baby safely? Now to me this is terrifying. These little miracles are your whole entire world and you're entrusting them to a photographer to create some beautiful images for you to treasure forever - but at what expense?
So if you're one of those people who just got a camera for Christmas and want to fulfil your life's ambition to be a newborn photographer GET THE TRAINING!!!! Message me! I'll help you! I'll point you in the right direction of the best training there is (trust me I've had my fair share!)
But please please don't attempt to do newborn photography until you're 100% confident. And more importantly, know that the majority of the poses you think look cute are made up of a composition of sometimes 2,3,4 or even 5 different images that you need to photoshop together so that that little baby is suppoorted at all times. Join BANPAS. its a forum for newborn photographers as well as for parents to find a newborn photographer. They have amazing resources and training you can learn so much from.
Similarly, if you're a parent looking to book a newborn photographer, please please do your research!! Make sure that your photographer has had adequate newborn safety training. ASK THEM! And you can also go on the bandpass website... https://www.banpasforparents.co.uk
But now that I've scare the bejesus out of you - go enjoy snapping away with your new camera!! Have fun but more importantly stay safe!!
The above image was captured safely by taking a picture with dad's finger on either side of the baby's head and then photoshopping both images together to remove dad's fingers.
No babies or elephants were harmed in the making of this image!!
The baby was laid on a beanbag with a black blanket and then photoshopped onto the elephant.
If you'd like to book a newborn session (and know that you're baby will be 100% safe at all times!) pop me a wee message and I'll have a wee chat with you.
